I know this was talked about a bit already, but as a brown latino writer, it’s not necessarily easy for me to write characters who are of African descent including Afrolatinos. You know why? Because I know that there is a whole lot of things that I will never really understand. Does that mean I only write about Mexican Latina girls who grew up catholic, fuck no! I read books, I do some history research beyond whitewashed history, I talk to friends, talk to profs, read blogs by poc. This excuse that you imagine people certain way that they all come out white is bullshit, we live in a digital world where so much is available to you. And if all your characters are white, then you know that your world is limited to white people. I’m not just talking about you living in 99% white town, I’m talking about the media you watch, the books you read, the blogs you explore, etc. Even by being on this tumblr, you are exposed, but what you do with that is up to you.

Stop Whitewashing vs. DamnLayofftheBleach

a-lostbird:

I saw this anonymous comment on the site Stop Whitewashing and was bothered. This isn’t the first ask they have received that bad mouths the blog DamnLayofftheBleach. I’ve seen another one not to long ago, ever since they allowed anons, and it’s basically the same. Someone comes on (anonymously) and says how awesome the blog is and how they are much more “nice and calm” than DamnLayofftheBleach, who are “aggressive”. Or some other form of sentence.

Needlessly to say, it’s fucking annoying. Because for one thing, it sounds like people are just trying to start shit between the two blogs, which I know isn’t going to happen, but it’s still annoying. The second thing is, I think it’s ridiculous to compare the two blogs because they aren’t the same. They’re the same in which they both stand up against whitewashing, colorism, etc. They’re different because DamnLayofftheBleach in my opinion, is basically a callout blog. Stop Whitewashing actually tries to educate and inform.

Neither way is right or wrong.

I don’t follow DamnLayofftheBleach, I’ve reblogged some of their stuff before. I think their funny and I think the way they go about standing up against whitewashing works for them. Same goes for Stop Whitewashing. Each blog has my support.

Look whitewashers and whitewashing apologists (who are just whitewashers anyways) because I’m pretty sure its you going on SW and leaving anonymous messages because you’re pissed that DamnlayofftheBleach called you out and hurt your poor fee fees. DLotB doesn’t have to be nice to you and neither does SW. Stop tone policing. If you don’t want to get yelled at, stop doing offensive and racist ass shit. No one gives a shit about your tears.

Just because DamnLayofftheBleach doesn’t hold your hand and pat you on the back, and bake you cookies and brownies and give you a glass of milk to go with it, doesn’t make anything their saying wrong.  Just because they go about things differently doesn’t mean you should ignore them.

You are doing something that has offended people, the only thing you should be concerning yourself with instead of their tone is fixing the problem you’ve made.

Seriously, shut the fuck up.

CC: ;_; Thankssss

I’ve noticed this as well but I’ve been silent mostly because

1. Meh, don’t care

and

2. Stop Whitewashing has been holding their own and they’re an amazing blog that I consider to be a sibling of ours.

Everyone should go follow them (unless you’re racist lololololol cuz it will hurt ur feels)!
