A Black person is someone with African ancestors, right? As a Dominican, I have an array of things I can identify as. Black, Latina, Afro-Latina are usually the ones I go for. However, my family also has some connections to the indigenous Taínos and my maternal great grandfather is from Spain, which I have dark skin from my father's family. One of the things I love about my people is how far our culture and skin tones range yet we still manage to all be Dominican.
BRHood: Uh, yeah? No one is saying you can’t say you’re Dominican. But as you said, you CAN claim being Black or acknowledging that side of you. I’d side eye you if when someone called you Black, you would go “I’m not Black, I’m Dominican!” See the difference?
