Homestuck kids for fanart Friday by grotesqueerie! (Link is the source)
This is one of my favourite headcanons for the kids, but the artist got so much hate and threatening asks for drawing the kids as POC that they actually left their personal blog. Luckily they are still posting art as grotesqueerie  in their amazing, identifiable style.

+1 person who, partly because of this blog, started going back over the OCs to racebend them darker. Your blog is super fantastic. =) Heh, maybe you could call something cool "acidic"? like the opposite of BASIC.

about the movie Frozen, it's based on an old tale about the Snow Queen, it's from scandinavia so they made the characters look from Finland or Norway. It's not about race, the characters look like the people where the story comes from. Finnish and Norwegans are pale with blond hair so the Queen looks like that. Besides, in the tale she is described as pale with really light hair.

The post you reblogged about sweden earlier, was so refreshing. I am swedish but I'm so sick of people pretending that we're some little perfect country when a hatred torwards muslims and arabs is almost seen as standard. Not to mention this stupid shit, a scene with blackfacing was removed from a christmas show, and everyone is soooo angry cause it hurts they're little feelings and ruins christmas, and I see people telling them over and over why they are wrong but no one ever listens.

Oops, ran out of space. Anyway I wish I could link this blog, and other blogs like it to everyone so maybe they’d open their eyes just a little bit. As a white person, there is nothing that annoys me more than white people getting hurt by the fact that they are racist and hurting someone else. I love your blog and I just spent all day reading all of it. Good job.

Korra from Legend of Korra and she’s super whitewashed :|

How she looks in the show.
This showed up in my watch today. I tried leaving a comment about it but the artist just hid it. It’s like they didn’t even try…

Hi, I was recently introduced to your blog, and even as a white Australian, I have to say I thoroughly agree. I just have one question about people brownwashing their face for cosplay. I don't mean to sound ignorant or something, but if someone was, say, LARPing as someone from a Middle Eastern tribe, wouldn't it be more accurate to darken their skin to remain as accurate as possible? Instead of remaining with a white face? I'm not meaning to argue, merely asking how you see this position.

T:

I've been reading through the archives and now I'm far enough back that things are getting weird and different. Like you're saying blackwashing instead of racebending, and people are going on about things that nowadays you'd just Minaj and ignore? Can I use Minaj as a verb? (Also I feel nervous now because my icon is a white lady instead of my demonic pet cat. But Mary Morstan from the Russian version of The Sign of Four is the very best Mary Morstan and she had to become my icon.)

… Thought I would just leave the just the gif

but… this ask can mislead some of our new followers…

When DLOTB first started we were accused of Blackwashing…yep

What is Blackwashing you ask… it’s basically people screaming that we were being reverse-racist..so… reverse whitewashing…Blackwashing was a “thing” (that term is just so ridiculous… and just anti-Black as fuq… )

Good times… good times….

So… Blackwashing=/= racebending

Sooo… is there a reading comprehension fail going on because pretty damn sure we have never conflated the two…

Blogs will change over time

I also didn't mean to be offensive by using the cooking analogy earlier. I legitimately compare everything to either food, music, or sex. xD

I saw what mariktbone said, and I do agree. Lots of people don't even want to try. I'm not saying people shouldn't try. I have other writer friends who certainly do [those that don't incorporate them in naturally], and I'm trying as well. I'm just saying sometimes it's a pain when you've a character developing and then they are trying to pop out as white.. just like the majority of your other characters. *con*

You know it isn’t right, and you think of different ethnicities they could be, but they don’t always click. I guess I’m in the awkward phase of making my characters more diverse, as I do have non-white characters I love to death. Pwah.

WOW WRITING POC IS BACK AGAIN. I just want to say on the writing topic, that a few months ago DLOTB kicked me to the curb. I was expecting back-pats for having an acceptable reason to not go into the race of my main character, but I found out that wasn't actually true. I found a mentor to help with the racism issue, a biracial writer who knows much more on this than I do, and listened to their advice instead of being butthurt. TAKE NOTE, MY STORY IS TEN TIMES BETTER B/C OF THESE PEOPLE.

T:

As a writer, sometimes it's hard to see the characters as people of colour. You just... see them, a certain way. It's like cooking, when you want to put in a specific herb and to there's it may taste good but it isn't clicking with you. So, sometimes it is a pain in the ass, especially when you feel a pressure to put in characters of colour. I know I feel that pressure, and it partially inhibits me.

I’m not saying that you don’t say anything when someone doesn’t put any effort in putting in PoC, especially in a setting where it makes sense if you do historical research. Saying nothing won’t change shit, so I totally undersand the necessity of saying something. It’s just.. complicated. X.X

T:

I like how all the complaints about how to write POC characters comes down to “BUT ITS HARRRRDDDD NYEEEHHH. I shouldn’t have to put in any EFFORT to be a WRITURRR. I should just do what a WAHHNNT. You’re MEAANNNNN.”

I don’t know if this breaks the rules of submission, but the comments on this are absolutely disgusting.

I know you already posted a picture but this one looks downright stupid and even more offensive.

The person who did the brownf-facing said it was part of their culture, but I really don't know what to believe. What do you think?

Brownfacing. Is. Part. Of. Their. Culture. image

Sounds like genuine malarky…
