Okay, so this is something that has pissed me off to no end, being an Avengers fan (originally from the comics). IN EVERY COMIC I HAVE EVER SEEN, Maria Hill is NOT WHITE. For example: Nope. Not a white girl. However, for some reason, Colbie Smulders (or however you spell it) was cast as Maria Hill in the movies. I looked and looked, and I can’t find Maria’s actual ethnicity listed anywhere, which pisses me off a bit. However, I think from the examples posted above, it’s safe to say Maria? She’s not white. I don’t want to hazard a guess, because there’s no way of knowing exactly what her ethnicity is. Anyhow, it really saddened and angered me, so I thought I’d do a little fan art. I was working with a limited amount of options with skin tone and facial shapes, etc, so I did the best I could. BUT at least in mine, you can see she’s a WoC like she is in the comics. I cannot tell you how badly that pissed me off in the movies. So yeah, I’m really getting sick of the bleach in every movie I watch. (By the way, I know this is a little late on the Avengers train, but I checked back through your blog and didn’t see it in there.) So yeah, I’ve said my piece. Marvel: LAY OFF THE BLEACH. mulattafury: People are always getting my races for the kids wrong? I don’t know if it’s because I use uncommon skintones for the races I’m trying to represent, or if it’s because I’m trying to make them read as actually being ethnically ambiguous (not just, you know, caramel-dipped caucasian features), or if it’s because I’m genuinely failing at getting it to read or what. But spoiler alert: there are more races than black and white. Spoiler alert II: I hardly ever draw white Homestucks. For the prospit kids, I try to do a mix of South Asian and Pacific Islander, with Jade being most towards the latter and Jake being most towards the former, John and Jane being somewhere in between. With the Derse kids, I try to do a mix of Latino and Black, with Rose being most towards the former and Dirk being most towards the latter, Dave and Roxy being somewhere in between. I give the Derse kids a pale white skintone because albinism and the Prospit kids a mid-dark skintone because pretty, but maybe it all reads better with no color? IDK w/e SoLDN: <3
