I have a question, I'm half black, but my skin is really, really light. I've been wanting to cosplay a dark-skinned character for awhile, but I'm not sure if that would be appropriate because of how light my skin is. During the summer I get pretty dark (people can actually tell that i'm mixed), but I would never tan specifically for a cosplay. I feel like I'm kind of in a middle ground here and was wondering what you're opinion on it is, or what would be appropriate for me to do?
BRHood: Honestly, you’re still a PoC so whatever. I mean, in a way, it’ll just be like Halle Berry playing Storm in Xmen: she still Black, but her playing a dark skinned African woman is still problematic.
I’d say if you think you may feel guilty about it, maybe you shouldn’t do it.
